I have recently returned from a holiday to find that my
house-mate has decided to conduct a vicious attack on my
beloved PC.

I have tried to remove the user account they setup and
delete their files, but this causes this window to crash.
When attempting to acces these files in the user's account
(No password was setup), as well as from my account and
the administrator account in safe mode I get the access
denied error message. Within these folder there are
various trojans, dialers and god knows what else. When I
load XP in Safe Mode the user's account in question doen't
appear at login nor the user accounts control panel, just
mine and the administrator.

Is there anyway I can remove the block and delete the
files without a re-install of windows, which I have been
told may not rectify the problem anyway, and then delete
the account?

Hi,

start up your windows in safe mode (this will start up windows with minimum
number of services running). Logon with administrator privilegies and try to
remove the files. If that doesn't help try and take the ownership of the
folders and it's content. Once you have it, try removing folders again.

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

After you deleted files right click My Computer and select Manage. Here
select "Local Users and Groups" Drill down to "Users" containter and delete
unvanted accounts.

After you boot up in normal mode I would install AdAware, update it and scan
the sistem. Also scan the sistem for viruses.

You can download AdAware for free from www.lavasoftusa.com

Then set a good complex password on your account and all other accounts. Or
evict your housemate.
