here is my situation. i have my hard drive partitioned 1 1/2 is about 19+ GB
the other with 18+ GB with a 1 GB swap part. the 18 GB is my windows OS & out
of that 18 GB i only have 3 GB to use. I know in the past I backedup my
system on my hard drive, not knowing what i was doing. Later on I did a
reinstall of the Windows OS. I think I may have done it without getting rid
of the old system. The reason i ask is because when i explore my system & all
the properties they don't come anywhere neer 18 GB.

Is their any hope or should i reformat that partition

Since you already have reinstalled the system one time, you just have to
make sure that all your data is backed up onto the other partition and
reinstall from the CD/DVD

Format the C partition or delete and recreate C partition then format.
