Brad

I have an 11-page report and I'd like to remove a last
name throughout this report-- say "Smith." Isn't there a
way in Word to globally remove one name from the whole
document ? Smith comes up about 50 times in the report.
Isn't there a better way then picking through the doc and
deleting one-by-one ? Thank you.

Brad, use the Replace command on the Edit menu. In the Find what field enter
"Smith" (no quotes). Leave the Replace with field blank. Click Find Next to
find the first "Smith." Click Replace to replace it with nothing and find
the next "Smith." Repeat once or twice to confirm you're getting the results
you're looking for, and if so, click Replace All.

This will leave any spaces or punctuation after Smith. A more thorough
option would be to search for Smith using wildcards to represent the likely
unwanted following characters and remove them also eg.

Smith[ .,;:\!\?\)\]\}]{1,}

You need to go into the Edit menu, and then
choose "replace". Type the surname in the "find what"
box, and leave the "replace with" box blank. Word will
then find all instances of the surname, and replace them
with a blank, ie delete them.

Cheers
