Somehow my E drive has been "excluded or turned off" and I have no idea on
how to fix it. I have tried restoring my computer to a previous date, but
that has not worked either. I have also noticed that a few desktop icons say
that the file is "not properly inserted or the network is available". This
all happened after i tried to download Macromedia flash player. Spybot I had
installed 3 days prior as well.
Help!

Hi,

What is E drive? CD/DVD? Hard drive?

HI , it is a hard drive with documents, files, pictures, things of that
nature. It is a bigger hard drive than my c drive so that is where I stored
just aobut everything.

Hi,

Start/run diskmgmt.msc, what does this tool tell you about the drive? Is it
seen at all? How about in Device Manager?

Hi Rick, I did the diskmgmt.msc, and it came up as only my C drive, and it
said healthy.
I looked at Device manager, adn there is nothing at all under any tabs about
any hint of a E drive. I also ran my antivrus again, nothing, i am clean.
What else could I do?
Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Ok, if it's not in Device Manager or the Disk Manager, then you have a drive
detection problem. In device manager, were there any errors (yellow bangs)
on the controller cables? You are also going to need to look at the system
BIOS as well to check that the autodetection settings are correct and to
check if the drive is being "seen" by the system.

Another possibility is that the cabling has come loose or has gone bad. You
will need to shutdown and open the drive tower to reseat the data and power
lines, or possibly replace the ide cable (the wide flat one). A lot will
depend on what the BIOS says about the drive and it's detection settings.

Rick, your not going to believe this, lol, ok, so I shut down my computer for
about 24 hours, when I reboot, it says configuratiuon error, 165 ( ithink
that is the numer) anyways, I exit out of that and poof......my E drive is
back, my CD rom tray opens, and all my programs are working again...no
re=insatling, no looking a devices, no cable checking, etc. i cant figure it
out except this computer world is weird!!. Thanks a lot for all your
feedback. it means a great deal to someone who doesn't really have a clue as
to what I am doing.

Hi Cindy,

I know it sounds well and good, but if that error is what I think it is,
then you may have a BIOS setting that is incorrect. If it does not reoccur
when you reboot, then you are probably fine. If it does, then you may need
to bring it to a shop, or have someone knowledgable with systems look at
your BIOS settings, as one or more of them is incorrect.
