Have you removed a BIOS password?

How can you remove the BIOS password to your Gateway Solo 9100 notebook?

Thanks.

See your owner's manual for directions. It usually either involves moving a jumper on the motherboard and rebooting, or removing and re-installing the CMOS battery.

Contact Gateway.
As long as you are the legitimate owner, they should tell you how to do it.
IIRC, you need to send it to Gateway.

And you have had this computer for how long? I find it hard to believe that
you can't contact the manufacturer to find out.

Oh! Wait!! It's not really yours and you are leary of contacting the
manufacturer!

Then maybe you should contact the person you permanently "borrowed" the
computer from. He probably password protected the computer to keep people
like you from being able to use their ill gotten gains.

Thanks. After emailing Gateway, I had to send them the serial # then they
sent the instructions.

Best regards.

It is unconscionable that Gateway gives out the procedure to reset the
BIOS password (if indeed it is a secret) by just having someone call in
with a serial number. Any thief could then bypass the BIOS password
because obviously the serial number is on the laptop that they stole.
Sounds like a good reason to use TrueCrypt, DriveCrypt, or SafeBoot to
protect the contents of the drives and without leaving a gaping hole in
security by letting Gateway undo the BIOS password security.

Maybe we should assume the OP's name matched the S/N in Gateway's records...
