Everytime I turn on my computer, windows messenger dialogue box opens. I
don't want it to. I know I'm supposed to do run-misconfig-startup and remove
it, but I can't figure which one is it in the line up. I don't want to
remove something important.

Greetings,

Actually, you cannot use msconfig to remove Messenger, it will simply add itself back and
startup again anyway.

Instead, just open up the main Messenger window (click Start, then Run, type "msmsgs" and
click OK to get it up fast), then click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and uncheck 'Run this
Program when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on
version) as well as 'Allow this program to run in the background' or 'Allow Windows Messenger
to run in the background' (depending on version). Then click OK, right-click the Messenger
icon in the notification area (near the clock) and choose Exit. It shouldn't start with your
computer again.
