We are a Systems Integrator and we received this from a customer that
supplied us with machines from DELL that came preinstalled with Win2003 R2.
The Vendor of the Software we need to install says we cannot run it on R2.
Below is response from DELL and Microsoft Doug
There is no reason to downgrade to Windows Server 2003 Service Pack
1 (WS03 SP1).
Windows Server 2003 R2 is based on WSO3 SP1 plus optional features
that the
customer can install.
The factory install includes installing the WSO3 SP1 image and the
'R2" bits are on
the hard drive and available to the customer should they wish to
install. Microsoft
has stated that there is no need for customers to validate or
certification testing
required as there were no kernel changes made to the OS.
It was my understanding that you could not remove R2 if it was preinstalled
on the machine with R2. I do not see anything in the Add/Remove Programs
that would allow me to remove R2. There are lots of Security Updates, but
nothing Specific to R2.
I believe the part about there were no Kernel Changes, but Not about the
Removal of R2.
Any Input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
