Hi,
I would like to remove vista but on this site, I can't find something useful.
1) I've installed vista in the same "map" like XP

2) I DON'T have a XP-disc because XP was installed when we bought the pc.

Please help me!

"This is pre-release (beta) software distributed for trial and testing
purposes only."

"In addition, once you install Windows Vista Beta 2 (or RC1) you cannot roll
back to the previous operating system installation—you will either have to
acquire and install the final released edition of Windows Vista or reinstall
a previous edition of Windows. Before installing Windows Vista Beta 2 on any
computer, please remember to back up all your files."

If you "upgraded" your XP, then I think the
acronym is S.O.L.

You will have to clean your hard drive and
re-install XP. Vista even messes up the MBR and
that has to be cleaned, too.

You'll need to contact the manufacturer of your computer and
request their own Windows XP recovery CD. Then you'll need
to follow the manufacturer's instructions to reformat your hard
drive and reinstall Windows XP.

If you installed Vista as an upgrade to XP then I don't think there is a
way back to XP for you without an XP CD.

Microsoft states that once a user installs Vista Beta 2 operating system,
You can't uninstall. You have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall
Windows XP.

Are you saying that XP was preinstalled by the manufacturer? or that you
bought the pc from someone else who had already installed XP on it but did
not give you the cd?

If the latter you will need to purchase a full edition (not upgrade) copy of
XP and start over.

Why did you ignore the warning on the GetReady website not to install Vista
on a production or primary home computer?

He was installed by the manufacturer. But I already sended a support mail to
HP. I will tell you when they will respond.

Did I use the word "retail"?

He may not have a cd for an earlier edition of Windows that enables him to
use an Upgrade XP.

You probably have a hidden partition containing the recovery image. Try
holding down F11 or F12 while the HP splash screen shows at the beginning of
startup. There is a high probability that Vista overwrote the code that
enables that function to work, but it costs nothing to try.

I usually take "full" to mean the full copy that is available retail.
"Upgrade" as the upgrade retail copy and OEM as to mean an OEM copy.

:)

Yup, if there's no Win98 or whatever disc around for "verification" then
he'd be better off with a full or oem copy.

I noted in my response "(not upgrade)".

Computer bought from HP with no disk. Sounds like a recovery partition.
Problem now is Boot Manager now controls your boot options so the recovery
options will not be there. Other than obtaining a XP installation disk from
HP (call them, they may give you one for free in your situation but don't
quote me on that) or try this.
When you boot your computer do you have an option for "Earlier Version of
Windows" ? If so, try booting to it to see if the recovery option is
available there.

The whole point of a bootsector is to point to a boot manager. In Vista the
bootmanager is the BCD store. In XP it is NTLDR. With that being said, you
may be able to restore the bootsector to a XP bootsector by booting from the
Vista DVD, entering Recovery options then a cmd prompt.
In the cmd prompt change to teh drive letter of your DVD rom. Ex: cd d: and
hit enter.
Once in there go to boot by typing the following: cd boot and hit enter.

Now that were in there type in the following: bootsect.exe -nt52 /all and
hit enter.
You should get a successful message.

Try rebooting to see if you have your recovery options.
If there is no change repeat the same process as above but type in
bootsect.exe -nt60 /all. Once you do that do a startup repair to bring back
your boot manager.

This is all theory though, not too sure if it would work or not. If you feel
uneasy about it I would wait for your HP XP installation cd.

Actually, as far as I know, the only use for the "cd" ("Change
Directory") command is on the currently logged disk to change
directories on that logged disk or partition. The CD command does NOT
work across physical disks or partitions.

To change to a SECOND disk (or logical partition), you must enter the
disk/partition designator to change to it. As in:
"> D:<ENTER>" (where "D:" is the drive letter or logical partition
designator)

To change back to your physical drive or to another logical partition,
enter its drive letter/partition designator with a colon, not "CD x:"

Unless, of course, Microsoft has updated its use of the "cd" command
to include changing across physical disks or logical partitions in
Vista, in which case I commend them, and apologize to you.
