I’m using Windows 2003 Server. I have a device on the network that has a
static IP address. The device does not have a reset button. I need to
remove the IP address. Is there any way that I can remove the IP address
using Windows?

You need to read the manual for this device and find
out how to manage its IP configuration. Some devices
have a web interface, others respond to telnet, others
require a serial connection.

What is the device? Does it have a web interface? How 'bout a telnet
interface? If not you may be able to use arp to change it's IP address or
change it to DHCP. Have you googled or searched the manufacturer's site for
the owner's manual?

Thank you for your reply. The device is a Castelle FaxPress, which is a
hardware fax server. It has neither a web UI nor a serial port. The device
is managed by installed software on one of the workstations or the server.
The software was deleted. A reinstallation of the software was attempted but
failed because of this IP issue. A static IP addess is assigned at
installation and during the initial installation was given one of the
excluded IP addresses in DHCP . The problem is that with the new
installation, the device will not accept the IP address it was given with the
previous installation nor will it accept a new one. The owner's manual
doesn't address the issue and Castelle's tech support wants an inordinate
amount of money to resolve any issue. I did a Google search of ARP, address
resolution protocol, something I'm not familiar with, but didn't see how it
could help but like I said, I'm completely ignornant of this.

Ask the manufacturer.
