Ive bought a second hand PC with XP home on it. It has a 20GB harddrive but
whoever owned it previously has somehow created a 2nd Local Disk i.e. "Local
Disk C:" and "Local Disk D:". When I look up Free Space/Used Space of either
one it says 10GB.

How can I delete the D: so that C: becomes 20GB because its causing some
needless confusion when I want to add and remove files etc. Theres nothing
in D: by the way so I have no use for it.

Thanks

Alex

If you want to delete the D partition, reclaim the space and not lose what's
on C in the process then you will need an app like BootIt NG or Partition
Magic. Either will enable you to delete the D partition and Resize C to the
full size of the drive without data loss.

If you plan to do a fresh install of XP then you can simply boot with the XP
CD and do a New Install of Windows XP. You will be asked if you want to
Repair the current installation of Windows or do a fresh install. Choose
option to do a fresh install and you will have an option to Delete
partitions. Delete both partitions and format (Full) as NTFS. Then XP will
be install cleanly to one large partition. Remember that doing this will
wipe out all data on all partitions in the process.
