Is there a way in explorer to remove the dropdown choices that automatically
appear in web page text boxes when you start typing a text string? These
choices appear to be related to previous information entered into these or
other text boxes.

thanks,

Bob

Go to internet options..content tab..click the autocomplete button. Here you
can clear forms and passwords. You can also disable autocomplete if you
want.

Hi Robert :-)

The URLs you're seeing are likely in the index.dat file in the History
folder.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm
will delete the History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will
be created when you restart.

or…. the History folder can be deleted manually:

CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/
should be able to clear the History and the index.dat file.
Just check the appropriate boxes and run it.

Removing some or all entries is an easy registry edit.

For an easier, safer removal method, go to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
and download "DelTypedURL." This INF file will remove all entries.

This freeware program will remove some or all entries:

Hope this helps.

Hi Robert - To delete ALL Addresses in the Drop Down list, go here and
download and install Mike Burgess' DelTypedURL.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm See below for Selective Delete.

You can also get DelSearchMRU.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelSearchMRU.inf

Note: this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete. To remove
hidden AutoComplete entries in History:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm#AutoComplete

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure that ALL instances of IE6 are CLOSED before you do
the install of this (these) .inf files. Otherwise the "old" entries will
just be re-written back to the Registry when you close IE.

Some free third party alternatives are:

A nice alternative just for selective of all Address (not Search) history
maintenance is EditURLs, here: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/ Here also,
you must close ALL instances of IE6 for the deletions to "take".
