I have set up a few desktop folders to organize my shortcuts. For
example, I have a folder called Internet that contains short cuts to
all of my on line applications. The problem is that this folder by
default displays an address bar with a search box to the right of the
address box. How do I go about getting rid of that search box?

A related questyion (and possibly with the same fix) can someone
please tell me how I can get rid of the useless (to me anyway) serach
box in the address bar of IE7?

Thanks!

Hello,

Go to Start - In the Search Box, type RUN - in the RUN box type gpedit.msc
and Enter. Under User Configuration open Administrative Templates -> Windows
Components -> Internet Explorer. Next you see in the right pane "Prevent the
Internet Explorer search box from displaying". Double-click and activate
"Enabled".

Done :-)

OK I think i see where your problem is. Right-click on the start menu and
choose Properties - Customize - Scroll Down till u see Run Command and
activate it.
Open start menu and click on Run -> type gpedit.msc and continue as written
below.

I didnt say that RUN was not present. I said when I enter gpedit.msc
into the run dialog it says file not found.

Gpedit.msc is not available in all Vista versions. It's in Business,
Enterprise and Ultimate. You should be able to edit the registry directly
to add the key necessary for this change, but sorry I don't know what that
edit is. Maybe someone else will jump in here.

You could also post to the internet explorer newsgroup. It is OS
independent.
