I tried adding these DWORD keys, NoSMMyDocs, and NoFind and setting
them to 1 but it doesn't work.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
I've search the wide web over and now I am asking you, the little guy,
to help stamp out this outrage. Thank you.

Hi

Try adding to the following as well:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Did you log off and log back on? These are the settings, and the Registry
key to remove these two items from the Start Menu.

I don't know what log on/off means, I just reboot the machine and hit
enter at the log on screen. I don't have a pass word. I set a word as
systems administrator when I installed XP pro but it doesn't seem to
work.
The registry settings did remove the Search button from the Windows
Explorer top/horizontal menu bar (not what I wanted) and left it in
the Start Button. Maybe my nomenclature is incorrect. The Start Menu
is the button in the lower left hand corner of the screen that says
Start, right? I want the words, Document and Search to disapear from
that but still have the Search button in Windows Explorer.
Thanks for your time.

Did that too, now I get the "Would you like to turn on Autocomplete?"
animation whenever I run IE. It pops up about once every five minutes.
Quite annoying, really. I already had that one disabled in IE
options/etc. Thanks for your time.

You can make both these changes thru the 'customize' button on the 'start menu' tab of the 'Taskbar
and Start menu Properties dialog'. No need to edit the registry.

Have you tried the tweakui utility from Microsoft? There are options to disable
both from the start menu, but it is a per user setting.

Can you describe how to do this? Start/Settings/Taskbar and Start
Menu/Start Menu only seems to give two options. 1)An option for
choosing between Classic and Cartoon visual styles for the Start Menu.
(I chose classic as I find the cartoon GUI distracting) and
2)Start/Settings/Taskbar and Start Menu/Start Menu/Customize, which
lets you add or remove which programs appear in the Start/Programs
menu, but not items listed in the actual Start Menu. Thanks for your
time.

Hi, I tried a version several years ago. It seemed to force you into
desicions which created as much bloat as it eliminated. Also, I assume
it is a TSR which I like to avoid as much as possible. Can't Tweak
simply apply the necessary Registry edits once and unload? Thanks.

Sorry, I was assuming you used the XP-style menu. The classic customize menu doesn't give you the
option, but running regmon while setting group policies showed the following two keys (with a value
of 1) will give you the desired results:

NoRecentDocsMenu
NoFind

both were placed under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Good Luck,
Keith
