I have a programme (netmeeting remote desktop sharing) which appears at
startup in my task bar on the right hand side near the clock. I cannot find
it in startup, so please don't suggest removing it from there. How do I
stop it appearing?

That area is known as the System Tray or notification area
and there are some programs that will not show their
startup in the msconfig\startup tab. These are hidden and
can be a real pain. You will have to use the registry
editor to find it. There are two keys whose sub entries
you have to look in. go>start\run and type in regedit and
hit ok. Now navigate by clicking the + signs beside the
following entries.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Msconfig\StartupFolder and the StartupReg. Look
under both these and see if your program is listed. If it
is then right click on it and then click delete. Next
we'll look at the Startup List.
HKEY_CURRRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Explorer\MenuOrder\StartMenu2\Programs and if it's here
right click and delete. You can also click edit\find at
the top of the open Registry Editor and type in the name
of the program and then click find next and delete any
keys or suB entries of the same name. After each time you
find and delete a key or entry you will have to click
edit\find next. This may take several tries as programs
hide stuff every where. Have fun.

Thanks, the final part worked. Must admit was a little nervous using the
registry! I did a system restore check point first though in case it went
wrong. If it had, would restoring my PC to this earlier time have restored
my registry to the former state?

Thanks again

Ian
