anyone know how to remove "Presario Info Center" text and
the icon from start menu. this is taking up space in
windowsXP start menu and besides once visited it is not
necessary to visit again or it could be placed on
favorites list. renaming the C:\Compaq directory just
removes the site listing....how do i delete the actual
text and icon.? using old dos3.1 monitor (14") so large
start menu takes too much space. thanks

It's just a shortcut so right click and choose "Delete". Note that this
will NOT uninstall the application. To do that you should go to Add/Remove
Programs in the control panel.

Hi Robert,
Right click on the start button and select properties. Click on customize
and flip to the advanced tab. Scroll down the list and remove the check mark
beside "Manufaturer link".

I had a similar issue with a manufacturer link. I successfully removed it by
searching the registry for the text (presario info center in your case) and
deleting every instance of it. That's a risky route, but I was prepared to
clean install in case things went south.

Hi Robert,
If the "Manufaturer Link" does not appear in the Start
button/properties/customize/advanced, then open up regedit (Start/Run
REGEDIT.EXE) and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartM
enu\StartPanel\ShowOEMLink

and in the right pane look for the DWORD called NoOEMLinkInstalled and if
the value is set to 1, then change it to 0 (zero). The "Manufacturer Link"
should now appear at Start button/properties/customize/advanced. You can now
uncheck it.

that worked.....start menu now looks real streamlined.
even compaq/hp help did not know this.....

of course i still have all the compaq
folders/docs/icons/stuff to remove ....will do that in
furture when nothing else is important.

thanks........a million.....i might repost this as a 'how
to' item for anyone else interested.
