Remove My Network Places from Windows Explorer?

When I open WE there's a folder called My Network Places that I never
use. I have a stand alone laptop so I don't need it. If I right click
on it and select delete it disappears but always returns the next time
I open WE. How can I delete it permanantly? It would be nice to get
rid of My Documents too, at least so I wouldn't have to look at it.
Any registry surgeons out there tackle this?

Hi

Right click on the bottom task bar/properties/start menu/advance tab/customerise
uncheck the box(es) for those you don't want to be shown on desktop

Remove from Desktop.
Right click a blank area of the Desktop/Properties/Desktop tab/Customize Desktop button/UNCheck My
Network Places/OK/Apply/OK

Hi, I think we're confused here. I have the icons removed from the
desktop already, that's not my question. My question is how do I
remove My Network Places for the left panel of Windows Explorer. It
would be nice to get rid of the My Computer folder as well if that's
possible. I right click on them and select Delete and they are gone
but only till the next time I launch WE. Thanks for your time.

I'm confused quite often. My Network Places folder in Windows Explorer is a System
Folder. You can't get rid of it.
It's interesting to me. You want to be rid of My Computer and yesterday there was a guy
who can't get My Computer on his Desktop. You guys should trade. :o)

Here's the best I can find. Courtesy of Kelly's Korner @ http://www.kellys-korner.com/
[My Computer - Rename
Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}.
Data Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ (Expanded String Value).
Rename the value named "LocalizedString" to "LocalizedString.old".
Create a new REG_EXPAND_SZ value named "LocalizedString", and set the value to "%USERNAME%
on %COMPUTERNAME%".
Exit the registry editor, click on your desktop and press F5 (for refresh). The "My
Computer" icon should now be renamed to "Username on Computername".]

Nope, still there in WE. The reg tweak just removes it from the
Desktop and the Start Menu, something I do routinely in the first 30
seconds of a new XP install by right clicking/delete. Yes, it's a
"system folder", whatever, I don't use it and I don't wish to look at
it. Thanks for your time.

Well, I don't like seeing microsoft frontpage, Movie Maker, msn gaming zone, NetMeeting,
Pinball and xerox. Whatever. Keep having fun.
