I have installed MSN Messenger 6.1 but Windows Messenger
still appears in the IE 6 toolbar. How can I remove the
old Messenger icon from the toolbar and add the new icon?

Greetings Gary,

I assume you mean the Internet Explorer Toolbar? You can add MSN Messenger 6 to the IE
toolbar by closing all your Internet Explorer windows,
then downloading and running this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/msn6_ietoolbar.reg

You'll need to the edit the file in notepad and change the drive letter if your MSN Messenger
is not located in C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger.

icon?

.
Thank you for your reply. Apparently your solution
requires a registry change. I have never done any of
that. I am going to need a little more instruction before
I attempt anything like that. MSN Messenger is on drive
C (Default). Since it is, do I just click "Merge"? May I
email you at your address. If not, please let me know
how to do this as you described.

Hi,

Well then, all you have to do is close all the Internet Explorer windows, click on the link
(see below), choose Open, then choose 'Yes' when it asks to add it to the registry, and then
reopen Internet Explorer.

I would prefer you not to e-mail me, it's best to just post here.

I don't know how to put MSN Messenger's icon in the Internet Explorer
toolbar, but I do know how to get rid of the Windows Messenger icon.
Right-click the toolbar, click customize, highlight Messenger, and click
remove. Adding MSN Messenger's icon would probably involve changing the
registry, but truthfully, I have no idea what would be involved. Hope I
was of some help.
