remove media player 10

How can I remove Windows media player 10 from my computer?
I went to control, remove programs, windows remove programs but no go.
Maybe I should be asking should I remove it?

Windows Media Player cannot be removed because it is part of the Windows
operating system.

You are free to designate any other application to be your default media
player. You are never required to use Windows Media Player.
