remove Mcafee

Mcafee came preinstalled on my XP and now I want to remove it and use norton professional. It only allowed me to delete some of the files and the others it just says that I don't have permission or access is denied. I don't want this on my machine as Norton is a better program. WHen I go to install my Norton it detects other software- Norton and tells me to remove it first. PLEASE- I want this off.
 
Then check MacAfee site for removal instructions

Norton isn't better IMHO but anyway, close any open instances of McAfee,
then go to Add/Remove Programs and remove it.

If it won't let you, go into the administrator's account (if you have
access) and remove it from there.

I should have added, if you didn't use the uninstall or Add/Remove dialogue
You've probably screwed yourself.
You may have to reinstall then do it properly

Norton is actually no better. It pretty much wants to take over your system
too. I use AVG and it is free and very good. It does what it is supposed to
do and does not take over everything. McAfee and Norton both add tons of
registry entries that are difficult to remove without doing it manually. Do
a "Run", regedit, click "find" and type in MacAfee. Delete all entries that
have MacAfee in them. Of course, make sure to run the uninstall first. If
you are not comfortable with messing around in the registry, see if MacAfee
has any utilities that do it for you. Norton used to offer a utility for
that, but not anymore. Windows XP's disk utilities work quite well on their
own and I just have no use for the ones in Norton Utilities or Systemworks.
