I somehow copied the "My eBay" tab from the eBay homepage onto my desktop
where it shows as a blue rectangle containing "My eBay".
I can not recall how I did it but now I can not remove it. Left or
right-clicking gives the same results as clicking the whole desktop. Any
suggestions?

There's probably other ways but this might do it for you.

Start
Windows Explorer
C drive
Documents and Settings
(Your name) Folder
Desktop
Right click on the unwanted icon and delete.

Right click Desktop,
Properties,
Desktop tab,
Customize Desktop,
Web tab,
Uncheck the boxes,
Click OK twice....
