remove folder permissions for deleted user

I've got a folder on a second hard drive on my PC that i at one time
set permissions for, so that only one specific user could access the
contents of the folder. this was on Win2k. I've since done a clean
install of WinXP on the machine, but the second hard drive was left
untouched. Now I cannot access the folder. I am assuming this is due
to the fact that the only user who had permission to view the contents
of the folder no longer exists (since i did a clean install, the users
obviously weren't carried over). So I am stuck. How do I remove the
permissions for this folder? I poked around in the folder properties
but had no luck. I didn't think to remove the permissions before I
wiped out the OS. Thanks for any help

If you had posted (or actually - searched for) the exact message you get
when you try to access said folders/files - you would have likely stumbled
across your answer fairly quickly. That's why it is a good idea to give not
only as much information about your problem when asking for help - but to be
as accurate as possible as well. For example:

I would bet you are receiving the message "Access Denied" whenever you try
to get into this folder/open these files. You could search (Google, Ask,
whatever) for:

"Access Denied" in Windows XP

And it is a GOOD bet that you would come up with an answer similar to (if
not exactly):

Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.
There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows XP

I tell you in this way so that maybe next time you can find the answer more
easily on your own... Or just perhaps you can use that searching skill to
help someone in these newsgroups one day.
 
Yes, I agree with those points completely, however I would speak in his favor
for using the web interface to ask, and to actually choose to put the
question icon on his post. If answered to his satisfaction, clicking the Yes
also puts a green checkmark icon on the post, and ONLY those posts do not
'age off' the board after 100 web pages (approx. 4 months), but are kept on
the system, available to other searchers. (for 3 years so far)
At first I was like everyone else, and used the speed of a newsreader to
post, but the age off feature made me try it again, and thankfully I learned
the best trick when replying. If you are already showing as signed in, you
can X-out of any extra signin-continue dialogs without preventing the answer
from showing up. Opening the reply in a new tab instead of defaulting to a
new window is another speed up. You get no focus change and lockup/wait.
After using this web interface for a while, the only real criticism I have is
the lack of a spell checker.
(Actually, I use the OE newsreader to update, and answer 'no icon' questions.)
You do really Great here, and I think it a loss to us that your posts age
off so quickly. (There are some others here to whom I might also preach, but
your thread was a target of opportunity. :) )
