I have Windows ME in partition C:\ and Windows XP in partition E:\ which are
adjacent partitions on master HDD. What is best way to eliminate Windows ME
and put the free space into the Windows XP partition? Will the Windows XP
partition get reassigned to C:\? Will the programs in Windows XP still work
if the partition letter changes? I have PartitionMagic 8.0.
Thanks, Larry.

Unfortunately, while you can easily use Partition Magic to delete the
partition that contains Windows Me and then resize the partition that holds
XP to utilize the space, the drive letter designation for XP will present a
problem for you. You best option is to delete partitions and reinstall XP.
It will then be assigned drive letter C. I don't think there is another
option for doing this.

Harry is correct. You cannot change the system partition drive letter even
though other drives can be reassigned.

This is what I did when in a similar situation to avoid all the hassle of a
re-installation.
I retained partition C so that drive letter designations would not be
changed. I removed ME by booting in XP and deleting all the ME files on C. I
then used partition Magic to leave a small amount of space in C and assigned
the freed space to the XP partition. I chose to leave 500MB in C as I have
come across the odd download that automatically goes to C and I believe
there is some minimum size that a partition has to be.
I remember that I had to edit the boot INI to eliminate the line for ME and
that was it.
