REMOVE Doesn't Always Work

I had an especially bad infestation of several different
MALWARE programs all at one time. One of the species
featured objects that could not be removed by AntiSpyware
even though the registry objects and .DLLs could be removed
by REGEDIT and Windows Explorer.

Removal did not occur and there was no error message
alerting the user to that fact. A trusting user would
probably have presumed that his|her instructions were
carried out.

It seems to me that it would be helpful -- especially for
novices -- if the execution of commands would be
acknowledged and confirmed when complete. If one selects
"REMOVE" as the action for some infector, one should be
able to trust that his|her request would be carried out --
or be advised of failure.

Thanks

What's up with all the safe mode, can we actually remove
spyware without going to safe mode.

I'd like to know what safe mode has to do with it.

I didn't have to go into safe mode to delete the module
at issue using Windows Explorer after ASW failed to do it.
Windows Explorer deleted it immediately and it stayed deleted.

I didn't have to go into safe mode to delete the registry
key at issue after ASW failed to do it. Regedit did it
just fine and it stayed deleted.

Usually, safe mode is only required when Windows has placed
locks on file objects that preclude deletion. Clearly, that
wasn't the case here or I wouldn't have been able to delete
using Windows Explorer.

Just curious what happened. ASW should have been able to do
what Windows Explorer did -- or so it seems to me.

I agree with you that Microsoft Antispyware should have a
warning if a spyware/adware didn't get remove at all or
microsoft Antispyware shoud show if any spyware were not
removed at all. Microsoft should copy one of the features
on Norton Internet Security 2005 antispyware edition
beta
where they show a list of spyware thats been resolve and
unresolve. Here is NIS antispyware edition beta

Viruses, Trojan Horses and Spyware cannot operate or take advantage of
system files in safe mode.
