Go to the following website and scroll down to Line 185, left side. Click
the "Remove desktop version from desktop" link and download the file. Double
click the file and confirm the registry change.

Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

download and install TweakUI from Microsoft.
under General tab is the option to display version number on desktop. just uncheck it.
lot safer than someone's registry hacks.

These are not "registry hacks". The registry edits on Kelly's website are
thoroughly researched, investigated and tested before they are written or
recommended. TweakUI makes direct changes to the registry, in this case, the
same change to the same registry key.

there have been numerous instance of these HACKS causing problems for people,
its always safer to use a program instead of editing the registry.

Perhaps, you need to check the issues within TUI before making such a
comment.

Have a great day!
