remove build from desktop?

Hello, I want to make a tutorial but I would like to use the same tutorial
after vista is released..
but to do that I would like to not have the build number showing in the
tutorial so that the viewers will not see that its old....

how can I do this? I tried a reg file from kellys-korner.com but that was
for xp and it did not work...

Because it is technically an "evaluation" copy you can not remove the build
number from the desktop.
 
The build number on the desktop is hard-coded into pre-release versions and
cannot be removed.
 
You can remove it - it was discussed here weeks ago.
You have to hack into "user32.dll.mui" and make a bunch of changes.
I think it was listed under ''removing the desktop watermark"
I'll try to find if I still have the article.

you could always use the sniptool to get the screenshot the then take the
build number out with photoshop
that would be the easy way if your only want the screen shot without the
build number.
 
I hacked file from 2 or 3 builds ago - kept a copy and copied it into the
newer builds.
I never tried to hack the 5744 build file - sorry.

Hello, I did not try to download and copy the mui file .. rather I tried to
hack it myself using the instructions from the site ..

beacuse I compared sizes and the old one is different from the new.. so I
thought I shouldnt replace it with the old one.. or something terrible may
go wrong... lol... ...
So I hacked it again....

Should I try the one from that site? What is the worst thing that can
happen?

The original one I THINK was 18KB - the one I hacked is 17KB
If I remember correctly, I couldn't get the one downloaded from the site.
I renamed the original, left it in the folder - just in case
no problems developed - YMMV, depending how the Vista Gods are
looking down upon you today<G>

if you look through the posts on that site further down there is a link to a
french server that works and it gives you the english version
