how if possible to stop users browsing to a drive letter
when the drive is hidden that is fine but if you type the
location eg file/open c: it takes you to the drive and you
can then navigate the drive can this be stoped

Yes this can be done with Group Policy. You can change the ACL of an NTFS
files system
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\File System
Allows an administrator to define access permissions (DACLs) and audit
settings (SACLs) for file system objects.

The File System folder is available only in Group Policy objects associated
with domains, OUs, and sites. The File System folder does not appear in the
Local Computer Policy object.
