Remove ATI Control Panel: Yea!

duh

I had a bug causing a vertical wave or ripple effect (thin straight vertical
lines had "ripple wave" at high [100Mhz] refresh rate, entire display at
lower refresh rates [icons, blocks of text, everything would "move back &
forth horizontally" ~ 2-3 pixels in a vertical "wave" pattern]). Actually
affected all pixels either way, but noticeable as stated. Hard to describe.

Anyway, I searched high and low for info & found nothing, tried lots of
different drivers etc. with no joy.

Today I was about to try the new Omega drivers and read the "readme" about
removing old "ATI Control Panel" before installing. So I removed & rebooted
and guess what: display all better!

My card is a Sapphire Atlantis 9500 128MB non-modable version :-( , came
with Catalyst 3.7, currently using 4.2.

HTH anyone else with similar issues.

And curious for feedback: is "ATI Control Panel" known culprit for bugs?

Ooops, should have mentioned this bug was specific to running at 1152 x
864!!!!!!

Omissions like these are my trademark: "duh"

Shortcut keys cause lots of problems, all ' apps ' use 'em.

Many many moons ago ATi's lawers were about to drive their heavy
hobnailed clog crushing down on the ' god bless you man '. In the
event he was dragged screaming through variously excruciating pain and
angush. Unable to tolerate this extreme torture he was forced, much
against his better self to agree to re-instate the ' control panel '
in his driver set.

The moral of this story:-

Disable ' fastwrites ' & do not use ' control panel '

What functionality will I lose if I uninstall the ATI Control Panel?

How will I do those functions if I need to?

None, really, since you install Omega drivers (also omega panel, similar to
ati's) after uninstalling ati controllpanel.
