My old NT4 (SP3) with easy CD creator 2.5 has been bashing
out faultless CD's (HP 8100) for years.
I have YET to create a useable CD or DVD on the new XP
machine (SP1) with easy CD creator 6.
I know XP has CD burning all wrong and have read the
knowledge base on the subject and applied the patches.
All I want is a system that works.. not a new box to
nursemaid!. My computers are tools, not playstations.

I know CD creator 6 can do the job just fine if XP would
stop throwing the toys out of the pram!

Is there a way to remove all XP CD/DVD writing 'aids'?
I have a growing pile of coasters and DELL are not
interested because the machine is NOT in a factory
supplied state (more software and hardware than they
supplied) "Reinstall XP from the boot CD" is not helpful.

The Microsoft site is big on adding tweaks but not on
removing the faulty code.

I also loose my desktop ICONs when the CD burning fails,
AND.. the taskbar. The big switch on the wall being the
only apparant escape.

In 6 years i have has one (1) crash on my NT4 system.
In 6 days i have crashed XP every couple of hours.

I couldn't survive if MY products were that unstable.

Best wishes to all you un paid bug fixers.
Rick.

I don't know the answer to your question, but Easy CD Creator is not what it
once was. What used to be a brilliant product has been turned into a buggy
mess that causes blue-screens.

I'd recommend ditching Easy CD Creator for Ahead Nero.

Rick,

You don't mention what you've done so far to fix the issue, so here's a
couple of suggestions and I apologise if you've already tried them:

1) turn off the XP CD burning for the drive: right click on the drive in "My
Computer" -> Properties -> click the Recording tab and un-tick "enable CD
recording on this drive". You will now have to use a third-party program to
burn CDs, but you may find this more reliable.
2) Check that DMA is enabled for the CD drive, via: Device Manager -> IDE
Controllers -> Secondary Channel -> Settings. On any system using an Intel
440BX chipset or later (as your PC is a Dell, it'll have an Intel chipset)
DMA _should_ have been enabled by default, but it's worth checking.
3) maybe try the "simulate burning" option that many CD burning programs
have, to determine whether the process will work without making yet another
coaster
4) If you still have no luck with Easy CD Creator - which is a good
program - try an alternative. For example, there's a limited
time/functionality demo of Nero available from www.ahead.de - might be worth
trying that.

Hope this helps - drop me a line if you're still stuck. FWIW, I don't use
the built-in XP CD burning tools either; not because I've had any particular
problems with them, but simply because I find them a bit limited for my
needs.

BTW - I hope that's not your REAL e-mail address that you used to make that
post. You do know where spammers get many of their addresses from, don't
you?
