Hi All,

I am having problems with my satellite 1710 and need to remove the case to
gain access to the motherboard. I have removed all of the visible screws on
the underside of the unit but am still unable to remove the keyboard (which
feels as if it is still attached somewhere). I have had a look on several
search engines but cannot find anything even remotely helpful so any
pointers would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

I don't know whether this is much help because I haven't got that make but
sometimes manufacturers have a habit of 'hiding' some screws under rubber
feet/non slip pads try removing these carefully (they should be just held in
place with glue or heavy duty double sided tape) and see if you can find
more screws. They might also be under labels (showing serial number etc..)
on the underside of the laptop as well.

The other case of course could be that you have indeed removed enough screws
but the keyboard might also be held in with little lugs of plastic which if
you are careful can be prized apart using your fingernails only (don't use a
screwdriver otherwise you might damage the casing or keyboard)

Hope this has been a little help.

The keyboard on the 1710 should not be held on by screws on the
underside
First unscrew the keyboard holder, a long piece of plastic at the top
of the keyboard. It should be held by 2 black screws. Carefully lever
it up from either end....it has latches. Now you should see 4 black
screws at the top of the keyboard. Remove these, then carefully ease
the keyboard forward over the (protected) lcd until the ribbon
connector is visible at the lower centre. Remove the ribbon and that's
it!
