In the Windows 2000 server(service pack 2)
network,I've to format a Backup domain controller(windows
2000 server,Service pack 2),while it was still there in
the Active Directory Sites and Services at the PDC.
When I installed a windows 2000 server configured
as additional domain controller in the same domain and
tried to ginve it the same name, a message was displayed
that the name already exists. When I, then tried to delete
the name from the active directory Sires & services
control panel on the PDC, the PDC refused to delete it
with the message that 'a DSA object can't be deleted'.
I was forced to install the additional domain
controller with a new name, which happened flawlessly. The
old name still exists in the active directory and active
directory still try to access it for replication etc.,
since lot of enteries keeps comming up in the 'Event
Viewer'..Kindly help me by telling how to remove this
domain controller's name w/o harming the PDC in any way
