removable hard drive

Please can anyone help, i brought a mass 500gb exturnal hard drive, which
connects to my computer by usb, (i am running windows vista) it was working
fine for a week or two then the hard drive stopped me from putting on any
files or getting any files off it, it changed from a LOCAL DISK DRIVE to a
REMOVABLE DRIVE which wont alow me to get any of my files from it or even
open the drive can anyone tell me how to change it back to a LOCAL DRIVE

You can try removing that particular device in Device manager, disconnecting
the drive, reboot, then connect the drive again after reboot to let Vista
rediscover it. I can't tell you it'll work from personal experience, but it
will only take a couple of minutes to try it.

friend thanks for the help but that do's not work i have pluged this drive
into 4 diffrent comps and they all come up with the same thing that it is a
removable drive not a local hard drive so you cant do anything with it i have
done this in windows vista win xp64 bit and win xp please can anyone help as
there are files i need back off this drive thanks hoppy
 
Hi, Hoppy.

What does Disk Management say about that drive?

Press Start, type "diskmgmt.msc", and press Enter.

Post back if you need help in figuring it out. But study the screen and the
Help file first.

it comes up as a REMOVABLE DISK and do's not let you do anything except
change the drive letter, so if you can help with my problem i would be
greatful paul
