Hi Group

Every time I insert a memory stick into an USB port, I am presented
with a pop-up asking me whether I want to scan my memory stick or not.

Regardless of what I choose this pop-up appears again and again. Is
there a possibility to turn this feature off or to make Vista remember
which devices are already scanned?

Hello,

You are getting this message because one of the files on your stick is
corrupted. To remove this message, I recommend scanning the disk. If you are
presented with this message again, your USB stick is corrupted and might
need to be replaced.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply!

I did choose the scan option. But without success. And all files are
okey. I believe this message appears whenever one removes a memory
stick without the "safely remove hardware wizard".

Well, what bad advice once again from someone that works for Microsoft.
All you have to do is a checkdisk and NOT a scandisk on the drive.
"chkdsk M: /f" where M is the currently assigned drive letter.

If that works, it will make me happy. Irritating as all getgo to have
to deal with that dialog every time I plug in my iPod.

In defense of the Microsoft guy/gal that you talked too, CHKDSK used to be
called ScanDisk for a short time, it was called that during the Windows
95/98/98se/me era, it's always been CHKDSK in NT/2K/XP/Vista. Probably just
a slip.

Chkdsk fixes a lot of issues, I guess that linux equivalant would be fsck,
though I think fsck is much more poweruser friendly where chkdsk is for us
laymans, and for Windows where fsck is for linux. :)

I have an IronKey, a hardware encrypted USB Drive, and every time the
IronKey is inserted I get the message "Do you want to scan and fix?".

It appears to me that this message can occur when there is no file
corruption on the USB Drive. I know there is no corruption because I
reformatted the drive and reinstalled the applications onto it.

I suspect that the message can occur as a result of not using the
"Safely Removing Harwade" feature. However, the IronKey provides it's
own feature to lock the drive in order to allow for safe removal. I am
unable to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature. If I do I am
informed that "Windows can't stop your "IronKey" device becasue it is in
use.

When asked "Do you want to scan and fix?", if I select "Yes" and proceed
with the scan, having selected the option to "fix file system errors" I
am usually informed that the scan cannot proceed because "Windows can't
checck the disk while it is in use". At this point I am not running any
applications nor do I have any Explorer windows open from the USB Drive.

At one point the scan did proceed and I was informed "No problems were
found on the device or disc. It is ready to use." I then used the
"Safely Remove Hardware" utility to Stop the device, I reinserted the
USB Drive, and I again was prompted with the message "Do you want to
scan and fix?". So it seems that unless I can set a flag to disable this
check of the USB Drive I will be eternally prompted with the message "Do
you want to scan and fix?" each time I insert the drive.

The question remains unanswered. *Is there a way to disable this check
so that you will not be prompted to scan the USB Drive each time it is
inserted?*

I have this problem as well sometimes. It usually happens when I insert
my iPod.

my usb pen drive has a problem .

I have this problem as well sometimes. It usually happens when I
insert
my mercury usb pen drive of 4 gb.

It has Something to do with the computer not the flash drive, because
if
i put my flash drive in my vista home computer , its asks do u want to
want to scan and fix.
But on my vista ultimate 32bit laptop it doesnt?

And yes it drives me nuts

I get this message on certain devices that act like a USB stick (one is a
Garmin GPS). I click on ignore and I don't go nuts...
