Chris

I have a about 200 machines set up on my LAN. Some are
Win XP but most are WIN2K. I have noticed that I can get
into the WIN2K machines by going to the Run command and
typing \\MachName\c$. When I do this on the WINXP
machines I am given the Guest account to login. I have
not set up any passwords on the guest account. Some of
these machines are near me. ( A couple of miles away). Is
it possible to get by this login prompt even though there
is no password set on the machines? I hope this is not a
stupid ?. I am sorta new to this stuff.

Hi,

if local user account has a blank password then the only option is using
guest account. To solve the problem, give local user with blank password
password that is not blank :-). And my advice, disable guest account.

There is also a group policy, that enables you to disable this feature.

I hope this helps you out,

Mike
