Remotely accessing a work computer from home...

I have a client that uses an XP Pro machine at work. THis machine has a full
time broadband connection via high speed (DSL) to the internet through Bell
Sympatico here in Canada. This woman needs to be able to connect to this
machine from her home PC periodically in the evenings to do some work on the
accounting system. She to has an XPO machine with a full time high speed
broadband connection using Bell Sympatico as well.

I know I could set up remote assistance on this machine, but is there a
better way I could have her connect to this machine to work on it using the
broadband connection that is active? Could I use RDP somehow to connect?
What IP would I use because her DSL modem has an IP assigned in the
192.168.xx.xx range and then dynamically assignes her own machine an
address... So I would need to know what address to use to get to the
external side of that actual DSL modem and then would ahve to direct traffic
to the 192.168.xx.xx address of her computer!

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could go about this or offer some other
ideas?

If its just straight up Remote Desktop you might look at this page for
help...

Call work using the public IP of the PC or if the PC is behind a
firewall/router you need to call using the public IP of the firewall/router
and you also need TCP Port 3389 forwarded/opened on the firewall/router to
the work PCs private LAN IP address.

If your running a server or domain at work others can speak to that...

you can also look at RealVNC or good old PCanywhere

Remote Desktop is superior to RealVNC or pcAnywhere in just
about every regard:
- Cost (free)
- Speed
- Security
- Facilities
 
1 From WORK, sign up with a dynamic dns service and obtain a domain name
(usually free for a small number of domains). Configure either your WORK
router, or her PC to update the dynamic dns service with the IP address of
your work router.
2 Setup port forwarding on the work router (if necessary) to route
incoming traffic on 3383 to her PC.
3 Use Remote Desktop from HOME and connect to the domain name (rather
than the IP address) that should now be associated with the IP address of
the work router - the dynamic dns service will keep the domain name/IP
address in sync.

It's actually port 3389 by default.
