Dear Fellows,

I am basically trying to set up so that I may connect to
my home computer remotely from work. It is behind a Router
as I have 2 pc's at the house. I have router ping turned
on although I cannot ping the router from the office. I
get the request timed out messages. Also, when I do a
trace route to it, it goes thru 7 or 8 hops and then says
IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Reports: Destination Host Unreachable.

Any Ideas what I am up against here. I know I would need
to be able to ping first before I go any futher.

Thank you for you time!! Have a nice day!!

Is the router doing NAT? Are the home network IP address public or private?
How are you attempting to remotely connect? PPTP? RDP? Some other VPN? What
OS is running on the home PCs? From what OS are you attempting to connect?
You don't necessarily need to be able to ping to make a remote connection.

Its a basic linksys Router...I have turned on port
forwarding so that when a request is made to my router
(port 2118 (for example) it forwards to my number 1
mach. with a private address of 192.168.1.35. I am using
a program called remotelyanywhere which can listen on a
port of my choosing (Default is 2000). you then use a web
browser in this manner. https: or http//router IP
address:2000/ this should get you to the RA log in
page. and it does for me except from work.... Machines
are running XP PRO at home and trying to connect from
work mach. on 2000pro. Thanks for your time...
