I am struggling to get a copy of an existing website onto my local computer.
I've tried all the recommended options but get an error message that prevents
all files with content from copying (the file folders copy over). Do I need
to have FTP on my computerto receive these files? If so, how do I connect
frontpage and such FTP?

FTP is already on your machine, it's built in and can be used either from a
command line, or from within Internet Explorer.

However, does the server your site is hosted on have FrontPage Extensions??

If so, log on using http://websitename.com and then click File > Publish and
publish the web back to your machine.

Another way.
Use FrontPage to create a new empty web on your machine and then close
FrontPage

Is there a link to your site in My Network Places?? If not add one.
Double click it and then enter your user name and password when prompted.
The site will open in file and folder view.
Click Edit > Select all and then left click the selection with your mouse
and then drag and drop to the new empty web.
Select Copy here when prompted and click yes to replace when prompted.
Windows will copy your remote web in it's entirety to your new web folder.

This can also be done by opening the web using: ftp://websitename.com in
Internet Explorer.
