Greetings,

I've been searching all known registry hack sites
regarding the Windows XP Professional remote shutdown
features.

I know it's not a virus, I know exactly what the problem
is: a friend of mine on the network. He's being a bit of
a pest, randomly remotely shutting down my computer for
me.

If possible, I'd like to disable it. Any ideas?

Thanks ;)

disable remote access to your desktop. :)

I think anyone who has remote access can send an Alt-F4
command and choose shutdown/restart. Of course, perhaps
I'm wrong and there's somethin' else goin' on!

'Fraid not. I've already disabled remote desktop access.

It's a remote command-line shutdown, as follows:
c:\> shutdown -r -t 15 -m \\OPTIK

It sends a signal to \\OPTIK telling it to restart in 15
seconds, and doesn't usually post anything to the
display. It's a background process. There is an option to
send a GUI message to the active user, but it doesn't
help me at all since there's no cancel option.

Thanks anyway ;)

Delete his admin rights (remote access/shutdown rights)user account or
change your admin username/password since he likely has it.

Bob,

exactly. Just wanted to reinforce this.
