Is it safe to access your email account etc from a pc out of your house,
e.g., library, if you have a web based server like Comcast web mail or
hotmail? I am concerned about infections.

Yes. Just be sure that you set the outside system to NOT remember your ID or
Password. Accessing the account from any machine is OK.

You can access PC from out side your home also, and only precaution
you need to take is your ID and PW should not be disclosed to anyone.
If you can do this, then enjoy.

You certainly can't infect your computer by accessing your mail from a
public computer. You could in theory infect the public computer if,
for example, you open an infected attachment, but in my view, it's the
job of those who administer the public computer to protect against
such problems, not yours.

So the risk isn't about infections. The only risk is having the public
computer remember your login id and password. Don't let it do that and
you are safe. I do this all the time when I travel.
