Remote Process Causes Shutdown?

A new Toshiba notebook works fine, except...

During an internet session (MSIE), after 5 or 10 or 15 minutes, a window
will suddenly open saying:

"The remote process called is shutting down your system by authorization of
the NT Authority System" -

and a timer starts counting down. The system then reboots and redials.

What's up????

I have experience the exact same problem on my DELL home
computer when on the internet. I have been searching the
Microsoft site to find a solution but so far no luck. If
you find a solution, I would appreciate being copied in.
Thanks.

The symptons suggest that you have got the balster worm
virus!! You need to get a decent AV program and then
download the patch from the MS website.

Hope this helps

First, stop the bug from running by hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE and
bringing up the task manager. Look for msblast.exe in the list, and
kill it. Now your computer won't shut down, but the bug is still there
and will run the next time you start your machine. Go to this URL to
find out how to get rid of it:
moval.tool.html>

See www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rpc
<http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm> for a quick removal tool for the
MSBlast worm and a link to the Microsoft patch to prevent future infection.
Then update your antivirus software and scan your system.

Gah... At least there's other people with the same problem
with me. By the way, are you also a "generic host process
for Win32 services" pop-up sometimes?

I was afraid of that. >_< Argh! Why can't people just
leave Microsoft alone? T_T Gah... X_x

Ok, this is what I don't understand, it isn't in the task
manager. I can't find msblast.exe at all--unless it
appears when it's starting to shutdown. >_> <_<

I found the virus under system config', and I'm not sure
if I should have unchecked it before I you gave me that
link... So far so good.

Thanks for the link.

Sounds like you may have the Blaster virus. Do you get your updates regularly?
Do you have an AV? Do you have a Firewall?
