remote procedure call

hi, every time i'm browsing the web, a little message
pops up and says that the rpc (remote procedure call) has
unexpectedly terminated and the system needs to shut
down. then a little count-down timer starts and the
computer shuts down after 60 secs. there's nothing i can
do to stop it. any help appreciated.
