Everytime I connect to the Internet after a few minutes I
get an error message that says there is some kind of
problem with Remore Procedure Call, then it says it has to
shut down the system.I can not stay online long enough to
even get any Windows updates or find enough info about
this problem. Anyone have any idea what this error means
and how I can correct it? I am using WinXP Pro.

Apparently, your computer is infected with the W32.Blaster.Worm or one of its variants.
This happened because you have not been using an internet connection firewall and have
neglected to install the critical updates available at the Windows Update website.

Are you looking for info about the cause of "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)",
initiated by NT Authority\System error message that shuts down Windows
(you might also see svchost.exe error occasionally)?

The problem is, the very first time I connected to the net
to get the updates, this occurred. I have never been able
to stay connected long enough to get anything. I am going
to do a full scan on that drive, but I don't think it is
the virus. If it is, I have some tools to remove it. I
appreciate the links and will check the info you
recommended.

Thanks,
Tom

Symantecs Blaster removal tool did find the virus. I have
since removed it and made sure all the related files are
gone also. I have an anti-virus program also. It does not
show the virus present anymore, nor did the Symantec
removal tool. However, I am still getting shutdown once in
a while. Not like before, but still occurring every so
often. At this point I am considering a total format and
reinstall of WinXP Pro to see if that will help. This time
I will take more precautions.

Thank you,
Tom
