Hi,

I'm hoping someone could shed some light on my problem. I frequently RDP to
my desktop and lately I'm unable to either logoff/restart/shutdown my
computer remotely. In order for me to log off I have to open terminal
services manager and force my connection to log off. I've already checked
all local and domain policies and I have no conflict there. I also get this
error in event log when trying to restart:

Source: USER32
Category: None
Type: Warning
Event ID: 1073
User NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

The attempt to reboot <computername> failed

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike Kapos ([email protected])

We need a bit more information... How are you trying to shutdown?
(via GUI, command line)

Through the GUI. logoff/restart/shut down all through the GUI fail. If I use
the local terminal services manager and force log off that way it works.
Like wise if I connect remotely using computer management.

OK, what about the shutdown and shutdown -r command line "commands"?

No I lied... It give me the message that machine will shutdown and then I
get the same error message in the Event Log:

Source: USER32
Category: None
Type: Warning
Event ID: 1073
User NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
The attempt to reboot <computername> failed

I receive the exact error whe trying to logoff/shutdown.
I'm using WINXP Pro. The SOftware that I need to disconnect to allow me to shutdown is the Nortel VPN Client (any version). It allows me to logout or shutdown only once when tunneled in.

Any ideas, I'd like to be able to shutdown with a network connection (tunneled) as the Sync takes place.
