I have recently installed a software package to my workstations using AD.
Now, I have a newer version of the software that specifically tells me to
uninstall the older verion before installing the updated version. I have set
AD to remove the older version, but I have a problem.

What if users do not restart their computers and i have already assigned the
updated version to install through AD? Will the "remove" command process
before the new software is installed? Thanks for your help!

Nothing happens -- neither the remove nor the install
since installs only happen at BOOT for computer or
LOGON for users even though other parts of the
Group Policy update periodically while running.

If you reboot (for Computer) you would hope so.

Crappy software that requires an uninstall. Usually
lazy programmers.

My concern was that if the users had not restarted their computers (therefore
not uninstalling the old version) the newer version would install
incorrectly. I need to make sure that the old version is completely
uninstalled.

Basically if I give AD remote insalltion two commands (1. Uninstall old
version, 2.Install newer version), will it cause problems? Can both of these
commands run on a single reboot?
