Having trouble with Name resolution on some machines in a
different subnet..

We have Small Business server, on a 10.0.0.x network,
with about 6 client machines, operating nominally.
On a remote network, 10.1.0.x we have 4 machines.

The 2 subnets are VPN'ed together with 2 routers, so that
they can both see each other, (can ping and browse no
problems)

The machines on 10.1.0.x are Domain members of the Small
Business server.

PROBLEM - Machines on the remote subnet (10.1.0.x) get
the following in the event log repeatedly and constantly.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1054
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your
computer network. (An unexpected network error
occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

Time services, (dependant on connectivity to a domain
controller) are failing. (cannot contact domain
controller)
Auto enrollment for certificates is failing, (cannot
contact domain controller)
Group policy IS applied successfully... (go figure??)

The server is accessible for shared directorys, Outlook
works correctly (exchange server) but for some reason, it
still reckons it cannot contact the domain controller,
(even though it can apply group policy from it!!!)

Whats going on???? is there someting totally obvious Ive
missed?? please e-mail ASAP!!!

YES - DNS server IS correctly configured, (its set to the
Small Business Server.
YES - going to \\mydomain.com\sysvol\mydomain.com works.
(as per MS troubleshooting

All machines must point ONLY to your internal DNS server. Didn't see that
part in your post, so can you confirm they are only using your DNS and not
any others in their IP properties please?

If you have clients at a remote location, what DNS are they using?

Thanks
