I posted this in the WinXP newsgroup but haven't received a response over
there. Perhaps someone her can help me.

I have WinXP Pro set up to allow remote desktop connections. I'm connecting
with the most recent Remote Desktop client from a Win98 SE machine. I'm not
getting the printers on the remote computer to show up in the session on the
host. The specific printer is a Brother HL-1440 connected via LPT1:. If I
click on Options in the client before connecting, Printers is checked to be
shared. If I check the Drives box, I can then see all the local drives from
the session on the host. There's not even a Terminal Services error in the
Event Log -- though I was getting one when I had a fax printer installed
previously. I removed it to simplify things for testing.

Anyone know what the criteria is for getting the printer to show up
remotely? Do I need to have the printer driver installed on the host? (I
do now.) Anything else about printer name, driver version or anything else
like that that I need to look at?

Thanks,
Mike

There are 2 ways to use a printer through terminal
services.

1)(youre situation) Install a printer on the terminal
server then share it, or instal the printer on a print
server. You connect with the TS client installed on youre
win98 PC. When you are logged on in to the terminal server
session you expect the printer to be already installed ?
But the printer is shared, so you need to install the
printer through the "add printer" wizard in control panel.

2) install a printer on the local PC. In the TS client
specify to map the printer. On the terminal server (youre
XP box in this case) you must install the driver for the
printer and then delete the printer, this way the driver
gets installed (always try to use MS certified drivers).
When you log on, the printer gets mapped. When you look in
controlpanel\printers, you can see the printer installed.
