Hi,

When I try to connect from one WinXP desktop to another
it automatically locks the PC you are connecting to. Can
this setting be change?

No, not with WinXP. I only allows on session at a time,
ie only one user can use the computer at a time, whether
it's alocal or remote desktop user.

If you are assisting someone else on the other PC, use Remote Assistance.
If you want an alternative, look into UltraVNC.
