I have a user who is part of a workgroup she has a 192.168
IP address. I am haveing a really hard time getting the
client machine to connect to this computer does anyone
know how to go about fixing this problem OR can it even be
done? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!1

If the client is behind a firewall/NAT/router then you need to forward TCP Port 3389 to the private
LAN IP in order to connect from a remote location. Call using the public IP of the
firewall/NAT/router.

I have already forwarded the port to the router. I also
have a 2003 server on the that router and when you use
MSTSC it goes directly to the server. I have disabled the
port forwarding to the server and it still goes to the
server.

If its going to the server IP versus the desktop IP then its probably a port forwarding issue on the
router. Verify port forwarding is configured to go to the correct LAN IP. Hopefully your using a
static IP on the private LAN...

I have deleted the port forwarding on the router to the
server. The only port forwarding I have enabled is to
the client. Is there a setting that I have to enable on
the client to get it to connect? Is there any way that I
can contact you? You seem to have a good understanding
of this.

Lets backup pard'nr...

* You have Remote Desktop enabled on the XP Pro Remote Desktop host PC on the private LAN, correct?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gomobile/remotedesktop/enableremote.asp

* You have TCP Port 3389 on the router forwarded to the correct private LAN IP of the XP Pro Remote
Desktop host PC, correct?

* What error message/symptom/etc happens when you try to connect to the XP Pro Remote Desktop host
PC from the client at your remote location?

Can you test this over the private LAN to see if XP Pro Remote Desktop is working before trying to
access from a remote site? Use the private LAN IP of the XP Pro Remote Desktop host PC when testing
over the private LAN from another client PC on that LAN.
