I have a PC running WinXPpro at home. My ISP is comcast
so I have a high bandwith Internet conection. I also run
WinXPpro at the office. I have enabled Remote Desktop at
home but cannot log onto my Home PC from the office using
my IP address lease from the Comcast DHCP.
Do I have to create a VNP server? Does my home PC have to
be a member of a work group or a domain? I didn't think I
had to do any of that...
The process apears simple and I know my way around a PC
fairly well (I'm Comptia A+).
So... any ideas?

Jeff: Make sure port 3389 is open in your router at home to pass the RDP packets

Here's a URL that will explain the process a bit more detailed.

Remember a few simple rules of thumb without overcomplication of the issue

1. You must be able to ping the comcast IP from work

2. The local network where you work must allow the traffic back and forth between each network

3. Your local (Home) network must allow the traffic inbound. I recommend that your home network is firewalled locally and you make the connection IP specific with a firewall rule to allow inbound communication from your work IP. Also the proper ports need to be opened to allow communication

The number one thing you should do is research to understand the process. If you find yourself asking questions here, you better seriously understand the security issues also, after all it's your data

Feel free to write me if you need assistance

you asked if you had to setup a vpn to establish a ts connection. You dont have to but I would put some thought in to doing so. not using a vpn or other secure technologies would welcome peeps with nothing better to do to hack there way in with not to much effort.
