Hello, I am complete novice when it comes to connecting remotely to my
P/C. I hope this is an appropriate newsgroup to pose my questions to.

My questions are:
1. Concerning installing Remote Connection Client Software, you
apparently do not have to install this on an XP pro Client, but what
about a plain "xp workstation?
2. Is there someway to get this software onto a floppy rather then
having to use the XP Installation CD?
3. The instruction on creating a "VPN" indicate that I specify the
computer name. If I an using the internet to connect to a computer
named "Fred", I find it difficult to believe that just specifying the
name of "Fred" will make the appropriate connection".

If the P/C that I am attempting to connect to is connected to a Linksys
router, is there some sort of configuration that I must do to the router
to enable the message to get in/out? Am I required to set a static IP
address of the workstation? Since my router's IP can vary (I do not
have a static IP address from my ISP). Maybe a static IP address for my
router is not required.

Anyway, Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction of these
items and I can jump into trying to get it to work!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!!!!!!

The Remote Desktop client is built-in to XP Pro and XP Home so there is no need to download and/or
install.

There is no need to use a VPN. The Remote Desktop link is natively encrypted. Call using the public
IP of the PC your trying to reach.

For fitting the client software on a floppy look at this old thread...
