i am using remote desktop to connect to my home pc from
work. when i specify my ip address for the computer at
home what ip address do i use to connect to my home pc if
im behind a router and my assigned ip address for my home
computer by the router is 192.168.0.2? thanks

Neil, you need to use the public IP address of the router (i.e. the one that
is not 192.168.x.x). Then you need to forward port 3389 on the router at
home to the computer you wish to connect to in your case 192.168.0.2. This
will pass the remote desktop stuff from the router to the right computer at
home.

I hope that helps. If not, feel free to copy any additional posts to my
e-mail.

You need to forward TCP Port 3389 to 192.168.0.2 (check your router
manual for instructions on how to do this).

You can get your public IP address by going to the site
http://www.whatismyip.com. This is the address you use to connect to
your machine from over the internet.
